Content
Content and Design are both essential components of User Experience. Together, they create a seamless experience that meets users' needs and expectations. While I specialise in finance, I offer expertise across a broad range of topics.
Technical Writing
After the acquistion of ActivateClients by KX Systems, my first project was the migration of all KX PDF/Word product documentation to an online format.
- Initiated in 2015
- Migrated documentation to Slate
- KX Librarian hired in 2016
- Documentation migrated to MkDocs, hosted in GitLab.
- I held responsibility for all KX Dashboards and kdb Insights Enterpise documentation.
- Editor in Chief hired in 2022; documentation team expanded to six
Financial Writing
Building trading platforms provided opportunity to write about markets and stocks across a number of venues.
- Motley Fool
- Seeking Alpha
- The Exchange UK Magazine
- City A.M. (UK)
- Investing.com
- TalkMarkets.com
- Finviz.com
Academic Writing
Prior to moving into fintech design, I managed a research laboratory investigating sustainable methods for the suppression of plant-pests. The results of my research were published in a number of peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Nematology
- Journal of Nematology
- Journal of Helminthology
- HortTechnology
- Journal of Invertebrate Pathology
- Biological Control
I also reviewed small business grant proposals for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in addition to volunteering as an academic journal reviewer.
Public Information
In my quest for work I wrote a sample piece for citizensinformation.ie, and used their existing style sheet to format it. This work took a couple of days to research, write (and style).
Social Media
I have been writing about U.S. Markets since 2005, and distribute content via stocktwits.com and x.com. My blog is one of the longest running financial blogs in the world.
- 58,000 followers on Stocktwits
- 2,500 on X.com
- 4,205 on TalkMarkets

Video Training
I created the training content for the online KX Academy course in KX Dashboards.
I worked alongside Declan for two years at KX Systems on the code.kx.com documentation project. He is a proficient technical communicator with all of the attributes that entails: technically adept, thorough, a self-starter, and, of course, his writing is immaculate.
Much of technical writing is about working together with other parties to come up with a documentation set for a piece of software, the latest blog for the website, an explanatory video and so on. This involves listening, understanding, and sometimes mediating, all skills that make Declan a standout team member.
On a more personal note, Declan is a quiet man who is unflappable amid mounting chaos (an attribute that I particularly appreciated). He's always there to help and he has a tolerant sense of humour, which, for a man who gave up living in Hawaii to move back to Ireland and also spent years of his life studying worms, can only be a good thing.
